Was so excited! New deck arrived today so I worked late to install it. Fire the system up, plug in the flash drive and get ready to tune it. Only problem is no mids........ hmm. Check everything and then notice if I touch the mids they work. One sounds like complete ass but the other one sounds fine. As soon as I stop touching it there is no more sound. Turn it up a bit more and touch the speaker and it continues to play until I turn it down.
Don't know what the hell happened. When I removed the old deck last week the system worked great and this was the very first power up with the new deck. It never made any weird noises or anything, just dead drivers. I swap the deck, no luck. I swap the mids and the others work fine (don't fit but just wanted to check). So somehow these freakin POS Illusion drivers just gave up the ghost. Ive had it with Illusion. They are like a freakin Aston Martin. They look slick and when they work they work spectacular. Problem is keeping them working.
Time to accept my losses and move on.Good judgment comes from bad decisions and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

Just gonna replace the mids with some Hertz ML 1600s and call it a day....... if they fit. I have to go pull the door apart again so I can measure.Good judgment comes from bad decisions and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

Illusion will not deal with the consumer, only the dealer. The dealer who originally sold them is great though and will do what he can but I am almost over dealing with these failing speakers. Too few people have them to get much of a feel for their durability. Don't know if I got a bad set from the first run or what. I will see what can be done on Monday but I am sick of not having sound so I am figuring out what mids to order. I really want the Hertz ML 1600s but, and this is stupid I know, they are too deep by 1/2" and I have no wood working skills and the local shops can only make one style of MDF spacer (which I have) but due to the metal of my trucks door the spacer can not be wider than the speakers normal mounting flange.
I don't have any wood tools but I do have grinders and imagine I can use a flappy wheel to grind the ones I do have down to half their current width.Good judgment comes from bad decisions and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

Anywho, this was the current upgrade for the weekend. Love how plain the deck looks yet its sound quality is amazing. Its DSP functions are really great. Hated how the old deck would produce hiss as a track would fade out or if you paused the music. The new deck is dead freakin silent. Digital time alignment, full active 3-way control with 36db slopes, 16 band EQ, auto EQ as well as all the current standrds like USB, MP3, SD card, CD, Sat, HD, Pandora, iPod, Android...... think it even has an AM tuner. LOL
Also went ahead and ordered these to replace the Illusion mids:

The Pioneer is very deep and has a large heatsink on the back plus the USB and RCAs stick straight out so the flush kit may break something or put unwanted pressure on those connections.
I would love the flush kit and could do it with a Sony or Kenwood or similar but I like Pioneer.
