If you jump the cushion it's just crappy traction. It doesn't really do anything to it. It just wears out and get drier the more you run on it.Originally posted by racrguyAnd if you jump the cushion because either your car isn't handling or you can't drive, what happens to the dirt?Originally posted by Super CoupNothing. How are you going to mess the cushion up when you are driving out in no mans land?Originally posted by racrguyHow do you get out to no man's land? You just don't magically appear there.

It doesn't happen every time, but we can usually get an inch or two cushion made but it never lasts as it gets knocked down. The only time I was on a track that kept one all night was at Kilgore during the Lone Star Nationals, that was fun to run up against it.

Ok, here is my two scents: most forms of racing where aerodynamics come into play are not very entertaining. 305 sprints usually either run at bottom or top of a track and in most cases you only have a few guys that canoe around and pass people. I have learned there are two main reasons 1) these cars are VERY reliant on setup on small miss and you can start on pole and finish tenth. 2) bc you have a wide variety of people racing from semi pros who raced 360 and just cherry pick to people who have more money than talent. I have yet to watch a wingless 305 show but imagine the racing would be much more interesting to watch bc motors aren't as big of a factor but more driver ability. I have been to many many winged sprint races, including world of outlaws where they just follow the leader.
On the other hand many do not run more than two wide bc the consequences are much greater than that of a full bodied car...obviously, and most if these guys don't get paid enough to be out of work for months bc they broke their back racing. If you want to see real sprint car racing you have to look at California and Indiana where they run as much or more wingless to see really good racing. As far as a cushion goes, most tracks around here wouldn't know what a cushion was if it was 6" tall, but that's partly due to track prep and other classes.
Again this is just my two scents from someone who has spent the last few years (until recently) engulfed with sprint car racing and recently started racing factory stocks.
Sorry for all the misspelled and wrong words, hard for my fat fingers to type on an iPhone 5c

Oh trust me is starts a shit storm with my parents aka owners when I take off a day to go race.
This proves my point about the difference in non wing racing. These are 410 sprint cars in Kokomo Indiana. I tried to embed but apparently youtube owns me today.

Unfortunately they're changing the tire rule on us on July 1, we're going to tires that are 5-10 points softer than what we can run now.

We're going to a spec RR tire and as soft as a D12 on the left.
