all i have to say is that a stock GTR-34 or 33 or 32 aint shit ,yes they are nice, and yes they can be turned into monsters no doubt, but theres no such thing as a skyline an illegal car for the US anymore , i've seen plenty at car meetings , specially GTR-34's, just my .02 cents.
I don't keep up with all the particulars, but I know you can now import R-33s as of this year fairly easily, but they are my least favorite of the modern Skylines.
There has been a lot of crazy shit going on with these cars. Most were imported and psuedo converted by Moto-rex and then Kaizo.
Both companies went down in dramatic hollywood scandal fashion. Kaizo was operated by a LAPD officer or LA county sheriff, don't remember.
Then the feds started seizing previously registered cars from private owners. There is a guy on a non-car board I post on who is local that I *think* just got his car back after the feds holding onto it for over 3 years. Some people hid their cars for years and others dumped them at a huge loss in fear of the government stealing them and becoming a total loss.
Car in the first post could be Samis R-32. He used to live around Lewisville and go to those KFC meets of 121 about 10 years ago. Not sure though.
It's a good read if you google the stories about moto-rex and kaizo or anything you come across on a message board about someone that got robbed by the US gov't.
Before the R35 Nissan GT-R came out, we published an article about how to buy a Japanese-spec R34 Skyline GT-R. In it, we told you about Kaizo Industries, which remanufactures Skyline GT-R body shells to make them Department of Transportation (DOT)-compliant before they're exported here. Additionally, and crucially, the engine, transmission and differerentials are removed at this time, so that the car ships as a mere automotive component rather than a whole car -- and is therefore legal to import under U.S. law.
However, earlier this week, we ran across a letter from a Department of Justice attorney apparently addressed to an owner of a Kaizo-imported GT-R suggesting that the car in question "may not be in compliance with federal environmental and safety standards," in which case "it may not be operated on public streets" and may be "subject to seizure and forfeiture by U.S. authorities."
Now we've been forwarded a photo of a couple seized Skylines that are sitting on an impound lot in San Diego. One is apparently the R34 GT-R from Fast and Furious 4. The other is a Skyline GTS with GT-R fenders and an RB26 engine (i.e., the JDM 2.6-liter inline-6).
thats my boy Davids GTR.....

Meh, I am man enough to admit that the vette is a giant piece of shit, like most vettes.... but I love the Cobra. That bitch puts a smile on my face whenever I get behind the wheel

i guess you got a bad one.. my coupe has 100x better build quality then any cobra i have been in. and the cobras IMO are complete piles of shit compared to c6's.. i guess to each his own.

My c6 has given me exponentially more problems than my cobra ever has. Two broken transmissions, windshield leak, trim coming off, constant dead batteries, front clip started popping off, etc.
Pic related, its from an article in motortrend a while back-

sounds like you drive like a tool. I know people with 1000 rwhp c6s with out any issues.. never had any trim coming off. As a matter of fact Several people i know have vettes because their mustangs (several of them termi cobras) started falling apart and traded up to a c6.. i guess you just got a Lemon, because almost all of the ones i know have been rock solid and pretty reliable..
the stock ones even more so...
i test drove 3-4 cobras before buying my c6, and they all felt like huge turds.. just sloppy in general. Crappy interior which made my c6 interior seem like it came out of a bently ( which is saying alot).
like i said.. to each his own, for me, the c6 is head and soulds above any cobra i have driven driven in, or is owned by any of my friends.
