        Speaking of GM recalls, my 2004 gmc blew a trans line off and it was spraying directly onto the catalytic converter. Good thing it wasn't hot at the time. Those little spring clips are pos, especially the blue ones from dorman.

          Agreed. It shouldnt just turn off. But, 2.6 million vehicles are being recalled that arent all doing this. And they didnt do it under warranty timeframe, for the most part.

          My mom's car had this issue with the ignition switch, and I got to pick it up from the dealer and take it to my shop to fix it, since they couldnt figure it out. Take a turn, engine dies, grab the key and start it back up once I shifted to neutral. I didnt know what I was looking for, but my knee hit her keyring with lots of bullshit on it, and the car turned off. Took me 5 whole minutes to luck out on that one. Replaced it and never had an issue again. Plus nobody died.

            Are we talking one click back or the steering column locked? I mean if it could just go eng off/key on, why not eng off/key off?

              Not steering wheel lock, just out of the run position into accessory. At least,that's what I'm reading on reports.

                I have an '07. Wheel does not lock when in the ACC position.

                  I think there have been six fatalities. There was a special on two of them that I recently watched. A teenage girl and her friend were killed after her car vered off the highway, went across either the on coming lanes or another road, then over that road into trees. The car was demolished. They were going on how the key was found in the "acc" position so they believe the ignition was to blame for them being killed. The one issue they barely touched on was neither of the girls were wearing their seatbelts, but then interrupted that sentence to say OMG THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. Fucking ignorance. One other instance I heard was a driver off-roading and alcohol was involved.
                  Agree with you...and similar to the Firestone callout, the first real media attention and lawsuit on that one had some crucial details left out too. If you go back and read up on it, 2 of the people killed were actually riding in the cargo area of that Explorer when it blew a tire and the driver lost control....they were riding back there b/c there were 5-6 other passengers occupying the seats. So not only were they riding where they weren't supposed to, but the vehicle was so overloaded that it was also unstable to begin with.

                  ...but it was a tire's fault.

                        I imagine the families of those ~15 people have a different point of view. I know that if I had a family member that died because of a .57 part that GM knew needed to be replaced but didn't bother to do so I'd be fucking livid as hell.

                        I believe that some of these people were teenage kids with very little driving experience, and certainly no experience with having the car power itself off at speed.

                        This was an easy one that GM ignored and it's now biting them in the ass as it should.

                            Fuck GM and everything about them. I had more problems out of my 06 AWD Equinox then probably the last ten other cars I have owned. Holy fuck one issue was the ignition switch, imagine that. Fucked up brakes at 36k miles, wheel bearings, axle bearings, mildew in the spare tire area that would fill up with water, etc etc. Every time I took it in the service manager was a tool. Last time I was not to friendly with him at all and bought her a Nissan Versa the very next day. Not one problem with the Versa at four years and 60k. I sold it and bought her a new Rouge this year because of that. Nissan has my loyalty for a while now. The service people treat my wife with respect and listen to her problems. Hell she was running late for work one day and had a tire problem "my fault", they jumped in a loaner and took her to work. They then picked her up when she got off. Now that's customer service. This is a huge reason I did not buy a Vette over the last couple of weeks. I am not the only one in my family who has had issues with them either.

                              The service issues are a local dealer problem, not a corporate problem. Did you file a complaint with management locally or to corporate? Or did you just vent on some dumbass then boast about doing so on the internet?

                                It sure is a corporate problem. It's pretty easy to tell which companies demand high standards from their employees and subcontractors. Unfortunately the automotive industry just keeps giving passes to people who have no business in customer service. It isn't just a GM problem, it is the culture of the people that that business tends to attract.
