I always heard that they should try to turn into them if possible.

The Harms are a bad ass weapon. I used to do the chem plating on the parts when I worked at TI.

If I remember from Falcon 3.0 and 4.0, the manuals would have you fly something like perpendicular to the sam then break hard into it while hitting the flares and chaff to try and turn inside it while it was distracted.

I could usually do it with 1 sam but multiples almost always got me.

Some interesting tidbits of its success. An interesting read, for sure!

I made the mistake of watching a youtube video yesterday of troops in afghanistan watching a flyby and they were playing "danger zone" and it's been stuck in my head ever since. It cannot be unheard.

                          <<Not a fighter pilot....

In general, pop on ECM if you have one (if not already on), turn to put the missile on your beam (3 or 9 o'clock), pop out some chaff.

If the missile continues to close you can try an out of plane turn or if the inbound is close pop out chaff like a mad man while pulling hard into the missile from the beam position. (Combining the turn somewhat out of plane at the same time may help if you have the spare altitude)

This will tax the missile's LOS (Line Of Sight), seeker gimbal limits and forces it to pull hard Gs in order to maintain an intercept solution.

I don't agree with Carlo Kopp on some of the crap he spews about current fighter capabilities, but here's a good primer if anyone is interested....

If those SAMs had French radar you can fool them with foil packs. I bet you didn't know that.

You might know my uncle. He was at TI and Raytheon and worked on the HARM and JSOW. He reitred just couple years ago also.

I want to say he did guidance, but I could be wrong. He gave me these patches over the years.
