    F-16 dodging 6 Iraqi SAM launches on Jan 19 1991

    Pretty crazy. First sam intercept tone is at 3:07




    At 5:43 and 5:49 you can see all the smoketrails from the incoming SAM's. Crazy. You can hear in their voices they are fighting for their lives. Stroke 3 is the camera plane.

            You can see a SAM detonate at 4:07 in the bottom right of the screen. At 4:40 one of the F16's is hit.

                      Well, my extensive experience in MMOFS tells me you bank hard as to prevent it from tracking you, and if you listen to the piliots, they are giving instructions to each of the pilots which way to head away from them. I guess it's a bit of teamwork and a bit of save your own ass.

                        He did pretty well considering how much crap they threw at him. I bet those SAM site found themselves and the business end of an F117 after that horse crap..

                          I'm guessing they weren't preceded by any wild weasel strikes, or accompanied by any ECM planes. If ECM was present, then they were just shooting unguided/unlocked. Sort of like the difference between using a sniper rifle, and using a shotgun.

                          In any case, that was some pretty impressive juking on his part. He was giving the G suit a workout.

                            I imagine a number of different platforms using HARM missiles were responsible for most of the SAM sites that were destroyed. Having worked on the HARM missile on and off from 1977 to 2008, when I retired from Raytheon, its success was indeed gratifying.
