Orcas are very fast swimmers. They can swim up to 30 mph (48 km) in bursts in order to catch prey.

Pretty damn cool. Was that a prop boat? I would have been worried about slicing one them up if they got too close to the prop.

I was kidding thinking the same thing. Hoping the orcas didn't hit the prop.

yea maybe.........but that big, that close, makes me cringe.

On June 15, 1972, the hull of the 43-foot-long (13 m) wooden schooner Lucette (Lucy) was stove in by a pod of killer whales and sank approximately 200 miles west of the Galapagos Islands. The group of six people aboard escaped to an inflatable life raft and a solid-hull dinghy.[8]
On February 24, 2010, the orca Tilikum killed Dawn Brancheau,[63] an experienced trainer, at the end of a "Dine with Shamu" show at SeaWorld Orlando.[63] SeaWorld officials confirmed that Tilikum grabbed Dawn Brancheau by her left arm and pulled her into the water, drowning her.[64] The autopsy determined that the trainer died of "multiple traumatic injuries and drowning".[65] Tilikum was involved in two previous fatalities. See bullets February 20, 1991 and July 5, 1999
While "Wild" Orcas have never killed a human, captive ones have,

Tilikum: responsible for 2 documented attacks and 1 undetermined incident, all 3 resulted in the death of a person.
Nootka IV: responsible for 3 documented attacks, 1 resulted in the death of a trainer.
Kandu V: responsible for 5 documented attacks. Kandu V was also known for being aggressive towards her tank-mates, particularly with Corky II.
Kasatka: responsible for 3 documented attacks.
Hugo: responsible for 3 documented attacks and 1 incident in which he bit his trainers head during a trick, Anthony Toran Administrative Director for the Seaquarium also said Hugo made "what appeared to be direct efforts to harm human performers."[76]
Orky II: responsible for 2 documented attacks and 1 incident in which he crushed a trainer because of a badly timed cue and blindness in one eye that was not revealed to his trainers.
Orkid: responsible for 2 documented attacks and 1 incident that was, most likely, an accident but resulted in a trip to the hospital with minor injuries.
Cuddles: responsible for 2 documented attacks.
Winston/Ramu: responsible for at least 2 attacks and 1 near miss according to his former trainer Doug Cartlidge.
Haida II: responsible for 1 documented attack that resulted in the death of a trainer.
Keto: responsible for 1 documented attack that resulted in the death of a trainer.

Yea, agreed. Who was the comedian that said that we have a deal with large wild animals, "we will not fuck with you, and you don't eat us"

Small world, a SoCal friend of mine "liked" this link, so it showed up on my FB feed today.

Update, 15 September 2016: We won! The Blackfish Bill has officially been passed by California. This means that SeaWorld is now required by law to end killer whale breeding and entertainment shows.Upd

That is the one. I went in, skeptical as all hell, but it made valid points.

I don't know about you, but if I was in that boat, I'd be a little more concerned one of them didn't come up and hit the prop hurting itself, or worse capsize the boat at 30mph. That would be pretty scary.

I'm thinking the same as you. I have seen dolphins ride the bow wave of cargo ships. Guess you can say these orcas like riding the stern wave of speeding boats.

This is one of those "once in a life time" moments I wished I could have in person.

Not a big surprise since Orcas are technically the largest species of dolphin. I was worried about that one popping up and hitting the prop too. cool vid though.
