    No shit. Everyone talks about them like they are all over the place. "just go to the junk yard and get one!"

      Cool lookin car man. Agree with wide whites and a drop. Metal flake roof wouldn't hurt either.

      Those things are pretty much gone at this point. They need a ton of work for a performance application, but would probably work fine behind a 6er.

        I don't think it could hurt that much seeing as it barely gets past 10 mph now in first, and it's making all sorts of noise trying to keep at a minimum highway speed. From what I've read a 67-68 Mustang rear will swap in pretty easy. Also heard Mavericks and Explorers as well. Just hoping to keep it cheap and easy. Don't have tools here to cut and weld spring perches and stuff.

        If you have thin white walls or raised white letters on it now, it generally runs the width of the sidewall and you can have black wall shaved down. I can point you into the direction of my guy if that is something you want to look into. Last time I checked, he charged 10-15 a tire.

        Be carefull running highway speeds with that straight six. They hate extended use at high RPMs.

        The Maverick will be one of your more narrow rearends, then your 65-66 Mustang, 67-70 Mustang. Granada rears run in that range too but I have found that the width changes car to car. I have a pile of 8" rearends with 3.00 or higher gears if you find yourself looking for one.

          I've got a 65-66 Mustang 9" housing, and a junkyard fresh 3rd member I don't need.

            Really? You sure it's a 9" for 65-66? Might be too narrow for his application, but I do know a certain KD Lang impersonator that would be interested.

              lol, even lesbians need 9".

              I can send you the measurements when I get home, or we could meet up this weekend.

                    Depending on the width and the price I might want to take you up on that unless Blake needs it

                    This was posted in a thread on the HAMB

                    I haven't gone under and measured mine yet for an exact number

                    Original Vehicles Rear Suspension Width (Flange to Flange)

                    49-58 Ford Car = 57-58"

                    Rear Axle Measurements
                    MEASURED ACROSS WHEEL MOUNTING SURFACE

                    56 1/2" = 71-77 Ford Maverick 8",

                    57" = 71-74 V-8 Mavericks 8", All '75-77 6's & 8's Maverick 5 Lug 8", 49-51 Ford, 57-59 Ford 9"

                    57 1/4" = 64 1/2 - 65 Mustang

                    58" = 78-88 Mid sized GM Car, Malibu/Monte Carlo (82 up Metric Studs), 80 Granada & Lincoln Versailles, 67-70 Mustang/Cougar/Fairlane, Regal with 10 bolt axle, S-10 P.U., 65-67 Nova

                    58 1/2 " = Ford Grenada

                      I bet you could get away with a 95 mustang 8.8 and get disks in the process. They are 59" and some change.

                        Standard Fox body 8.8 width is 59". I just swapped one into my '57 Chrysler.

                        Figure 1.5" wider for SN95 parts. I think that's just too wide.

                        I'm trying to understand why a car with a flat-6 and skinny whitewalls would need rear disc brakes, lmao.

                              65 9" rear end

                              If it is a standard V8 rearend for a 65 Mustang, I think it will be an 8". If I remember correctly you only got a 9" in a "K" car. Ialso think the spring perch is the same spacing on the early Ford rear end and the Mustang unit. Should be a simple bolt in. You may have to change the U joint to one with the two different sise bearing caps. A good parts man can solve that. Auto Zone probably will just give you a puzzled look.

                                I'm just fine with some shaved white wall tires! I've seen them done and it's a freaking mess but they turn out looking pretty nice.

                                I would definitely like to find a high geared rear end pretty soon. It'll have to be something that can basically swap right in though without any cutting and welding of spring perches, etc

                                L O L....right? Although it's an OHV 6, not a flattie

                                No, I reserve those swaps for SN95 Cobras

                                Yeah, but where do you find those now-a-days? Same place you find the Versaille rearends?
