Do you have one of those for sale? Of course, since it is not visually appealing on the outside it does take away from the price, right?
I took it apart, it was all together when I got it minus the starter was already removed.

There was sludge in the pan fwiw, and I also got my replacement engine from LKQ.

The leaves were from the trees in my friends yard and the grease you see is from seeping valve cover gaskets.

Biiiitch, you now damn well that if you are going to buy a car and its all nice and clean til you get under the hood, that could be a deal breaker. Mud snow and water, texas rat snake shit all over it, you know your not buying it because its seems as though it wasn't maintained right.

I clean my engine every week I race and it always looks good. It definetly don't help it from blowing up though!

I think what everyone is getting at is that the care given to the exterior reflects the care given to the interior...
When you pull up to a shanty with a unkempt lawn do you believe that the interior is in good shape? Someone cares for their engine generally cares enough to keep their engine somewhat clean. Not always, but most of the time.

I'm one that doesn't give a rats ass how clean the engine is, but I maintain my cars. Paint, interior, and mechanics all get the royal treatment, but keeping the engine bay sparkling isn't on my list. I keep leaves out due to the potential fire hazard.

Sometimes, but as said, I have known of several idiots who've taken great care of their cars on the outside, but haven't the foggiest clue what to do when changing spark plugs. I've seen plenty of shiny cars blow up on the dyno and the track and the owners get out dropped jawed, scratching their heads wondering what just happened. During the 90's when street racing was prevalent, more times than not I'd see shit boxes trounce all over shiny LT1 f-bodys and their arrogant owners cry and make excuses.
The exterior doesn't always reflect what's going on with the interior. There are those who believe in function over form.

Wait, you're arguing that someone fucking dumb enough to street race an LT1 Camaro against better prepared cars, somehow has anything to do with the outside condition being a tell-tale of the probability of the inside condition?

The outside doesnt always tell the tale of the inside, and nobody is arguing that with you. Apparently you cant grasp that the overall condition is reflected in the outward appearance, and the connotation of a dirty motor on the outside is that it wasnt cared for or maintained. Did they change the oil every 2500 miles with mobil one? Maybe, but those people dont generally spill oil when filling and not clean it up. Did they drive through the Jiffy Lube when the sticker said to, but had never seen under their own hood? If I was looking for a car, Id rather buy it from the guy that has taken care of it meticulously, rather than the dumbass that hasnt ever checked his own oil.

These "better prepared cars" were shit boxes. Ugly everywhere. Not pretty to look at. Were not kept up externally. You are grasping at anything. Also, those "fucking dumb enough to street race LT1 Camaro..." owners also won their fair share. Hell when I was younger I had a car that I drove 200,000 miles. Never washed the engine bay. I could care less what it looked like. The oil was changed faithfully. Engine never failed to start and ran well until it was pulled to put something bigger in. By your logic that must mean the inside was just as shitty as the outside. What you fail to realize is I won't judge how an engine is maintained just by looking at it on the outside. You want to sell me a pretty engine that I can't hear run then I'll reference it to the good doctor.

I was one of the shitboxes spanking those stock lt1's, and I was rolling on polycast wheels. It was by design. I was the guy that painted my aluminum heads and intake the same blue as the block, and hid my MSD box and coils and anything to make it look like there was any performance parts in inner fenders and such. I ran resonators and turbo mufflers to keep it quiet.

That is nowhere near what we are discussing here, though. You keep trying to go off in a different direction, by talking about shitboxes that werent built to be pretty. We are talking about daily drivers by normal everyday folks. Try to keep it on track.

LOL... as said, you are grasping. It was used as an example. Daily drivers? Like the engine originally pictured? Past and present I know of more performance enthusiast who really gives two shits what their daily driver looks like than those who do. They do the essentials, but aren't anal enough to cry over a little dirt/oil or grime that is on their engine. I've known folks like what you describe and I must say their neurotic psychopathic personalities when it comes to their car can be a real pain in the dick to be around. As I said, I am a believer in function over form and will give even a dirty engine the benefit of the doubt.
