My guess is the crank broke. Think it was #5 and #6. I pulled that out through the hole in the oil pan it made. I haven't taken the pan off to see all the damage.

When my dad picked up my 72 c10 the crank was in 3 pieces in the oil pan.

My comment about the condition of the engine earlier was mainly in jest, but there is some merit to the fact that the engine is dirty with leaves and material so one can only assume that the person who owned it did not take very good care of it...or at least their attention to detail and meticulousness was subpar.

And that, in itself is an ignorant statement. That engine has a lot of grime on it. It could be that grime got into places that could not be cleaned unless the engine was dismantled as much as it has been in the pictures provided. The leaves could have been there from the time the engine was in the car to just seconds before the pics were taken. Looking at the windage tray and oil pump inlet there doesn't seem to be any sludge buildup which means at least oil may have been changed faithfully. Basically there's not way to tell in these pictures how the owner treated this engine. Those who do say such things are usually self-righteous, Zaino/diaper applying douche bags who really do not have a clue nor want one. Basically my initial comment to you was also in jest, because what you said was just so ridiculous.
