"Contrary to the catalogue description, the engine fitted to this car is not an original and correct 750 Monza type and it cannot be confirmed that it comes from a Ferrari 625 monoposto Grand Prix car. "

Well I'm out. Just a project car.

I'm surprised with it having been so close to the Gainesville, Tx area Bob Smith Coachworks hadn't found the car in the 30 years it sat. Very neat piece of history.

Ferrari factory and marcel massini stuck their nose in where it didnt belong this time. Long story but i will try to short it. Car was built in 1954 and raced in europe as a factory team car........race venues such as goodwood and others show 0498-m entered with mike hawthorn as driver. Ferrari wiped those records from existance, as the car was delivered to the US "as new" in 1955. Since this car sat lost for so long, ferrari vultures had already carved up this cars european race history among other cars, and ferrari confirms it. Whoops, goodwood, spa, milli milia all kept records as to what chassis were entered at their particular races. Ferrari wont admit it, nor can they provide which engine number it started life with, the first time it was new. Ferrari called the morning of the auction trying to undermind the numbers of this car, because yet again, ferrari signed off on an incorrect engine placed in another monza many years ago. This is what you fight with 33 cars built and only 35 engines of the proper type built.

Car sold for 2.3 mill. They did enough to hurt the value by at least a million, not happy.....

Spoke to one interested party from germany for about 30 minutes prior to auction. He was a bit freaked about the engine issues. Real pisser about situation is, another 750 monza sold in august at auction for north of 4mil. It had its exact numbers matching engine, as it was raced by some queers who were slow and you've never heard of.

That really sucks, Grape. Apart from losing face over getting their facts wrong, what do they gain by dicking with y'all over the car's history?

Thats all they were trying to do was protect their incorrect facts. Unfortunately it swings values 7 figures either direction on cars like this.
