If their is still a tag in the truck you will be ok as long as you don't pull a trailer. Any trailer is going to be over 1k. When I had my dually I was looking at 34 foot goosenecks until one of the guys told me he got a bunch of tickets from the dot man because the combined weight of both was over 26k. A lot of the single wheel dump trucks are under 26k and they will look identical to the ones that are over except they bring more money because nobody wants to screw with worrying about a cdl.

My truck has farm plates and I pull my racecar with it all the time. Haven't had anybody pull me over for it.

A buddy of mine who was running a trucking company said one of his dump truck drivers got a $5800 ticket because he was not quick enough setting down his extra set of wheels after he turned onto a certain road. I can't imagine a ticket that expensive.

I may have missed the part about what motor you are putting in it or if you were keeping it original. Whats the plan?

Try to get the stock 292 running if its in ok shape maybe a DIY turbo but if it ever blows then its getting a 7.3 turbo diesel swap

A 7.3? Thats an odd swap. More work than a 12 valve swap thats for sure

How would it be more work?

                      a lot more wiring/related components

a 12v is purely mechanical. If you had and air starter on it, you wouldn't need a single wire on the entire vehicle

I didn't think about the older mechanical engines.

I know a guy who ended up with 10k in tickets from Banning scale in CA.
Fines for cmv are stupidly high.

It may be simpler but I would rather keep it a v8
