I have an X frame GM car out in the garage and I'm not buying that a malibu is going to do that kind of damage to it. There is no doubt that modern cars are safer, but that just doesn't look right to me. Sure, the fenders are hollow on it, but the big ass bumper and the frame underneath is plenty stout.

Highly doubtful. More objective maybe. Could be that Cadillac made their shit better than Chevy in those years. I'm sure no one has ever rigged a test to look more spectacular to an audience, especially one that isn't likely to be repeated.
