Is it normal for the intake threads to be weak on aluminum heads? I had one strip out without any effort from the wrench. I see you have plug inserts, is that because your old ones were wore out or what?

I'm currently in the process of heli coil inserting all intake threads and thermostat housing threads so I don't have to cringe everytime I tighten a bolt.

After multiple torquing, yes. Even iron will give eventually if you cycle it enough times, just takes longer compared to cast aluminum.

Don't over tighten and make sure your bolts are long enough.

TFS-r heads crack around the thin area at the plug. I didn't want the cracks to get worse so I had inserts done on all the plugs. I'm running alcohol so any loss of heat transfer shouldn't be a problem.

My last intake bolt pulled threads at 15lbft. I do 3 sequences, 10, 15, 18 with 15 minute intermission. I now have arp studs to install lower intake.

I do the 3 sequence thing but no torque wrench. All my tq wrenches are too inaccurate at low tq. I just do it by feel. I currently use the arp intake bolts with washers with studs in the corners for easy aligning. After a few heat cycles I go back and check them.

I guess intake torque isn't as critical. Snug. Compress gasket repeat until it feels good? The 18lbft felt like too much when I was doing it. 3/8 digital snap on.

Why not use studs for all?

Studs tighten differently then bolts, would you still use the same feel for studs as bolts?

I had carb base studs I used for the 4 corners to help alignment with the gasket. I already had grade 8 bolts for the intake as a set. Just frugal I suppose. as long as the heads aren't milled too far or angle cut, I've never had a intake problem, even with used gaskets and 12 lbs boost. I coat most gaskets with antiseize for reuse if needed.

That's a good idea. I use the felpro 1250s3, I use silicone on the water jackets, it rubs off. I was told to not re use the gaskets but after use they still look new just not as soft. They don't stick or tear either.
