  • F14 Tomcat in HD

Alright so the Tomcat might not have been the best plane we ever had requiring 50 maintenance hours per flight hour (closer to 80 towards the end according to a board member who worked on them), and the US logged all of 4 kills with them over their 32 years of service (compared to the F15s 36, and zero losses) but it is a beautiful aircraft. Watch in HD if possible.

I was thinking the same thing during the video. If I don't try to find a range to shoot at today my ass will be parked on the couch watching Top Gun.

Great video. And Top Gun sucked.

What's up with that? I know every scene, every cheesy line, every stupid cliche.

But when flipping through the channels...........Top Gun......you fucking watch it!

The most fun I ever had working my ass off was either:

                    1. In the cockpit of a tomcat
                    2. In the avionics bay of a tomcat
                    3. Getting a tomcat ready for launch on the flight deck

                    Tomcats Forever \ VF-103 Baby....

Here's one I made from some web footage from some old fighter flings:

Would've been better if there were sounds of the damn planes.

Actually, VF-103 was the "Sluggers" while I was in, and we won 2 Battle Es in a row (I think it was 91 and 92) and a Safety S.

VF-84 was the Jolly Rogers and we picked up Ensign Ernie after they were deactivated in 95.

When I was on the Independence, my fellow airframers that worked on the Alphas in VF-21 and VF-154 hated life. They worked their asses off. Those were some old-assed birds. One of the VF-21 aircraft actually had a Mig stamp (it was one of the ones that splashed a Libyan plane).
The last time I saw a Tomcat launch off the boat, it was a cold cat off the bow. They went for a swim, but my boy Danny got them both back on board in exactly 8 minutes.
