Alright so the Tomcat might not have been the best plane we ever had requiring 50 maintenance hours per flight hour (closer to 80 towards the end according to a board member who worked on them), and the US logged all of 4 kills with them over their 32 years of service (compared to the F15s 36, and zero losses) but it is a beautiful aircraft. Watch in HD if possible.

The most fun I ever had working my ass off was either:
1. In the cockpit of a tomcat
2. In the avionics bay of a tomcat
3. Getting a tomcat ready for launch on the flight deck
Tomcats Forever \ VF-103 Baby....
Here's one I made from some web footage from some old fighter flings:

VF-84 was the Jolly Rogers and we picked up Ensign Ernie after they were deactivated in 95.

When I was on the Independence, my fellow airframers that worked on the Alphas in VF-21 and VF-154 hated life. They worked their asses off. Those were some old-assed birds. One of the VF-21 aircraft actually had a Mig stamp (it was one of the ones that splashed a Libyan plane).
The last time I saw a Tomcat launch off the boat, it was a cold cat off the bow. They went for a swim, but my boy Danny got them both back on board in exactly 8 minutes."It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."
