The mere sight of guns and the other things you listed should have no effect on your kids. It is your job as a parent to explain to your kids what is happening and why. It will not be easy to explain to them these concepts, as they're adult topics, but you can't shelter them from these sorts of things their entire lives. Would you rather them be prepared to see something like this when they're out on their own, or them experience it for the first time and not know how to react?

This. I really don't want my kids to watch two gay guys kissing on the street, but it is their right. I explained to my kids why it happens. I don't want to see it, or my kids to see it, but I CANNOT repress their right to do it. Attempting to regulate it to only be done in hiding, out of the view of the public is the first step to making it illegal to do so at all.
