Looks like a blow out right before he goes sideways...you can see a flash of orange and then it goes wrong.

Looks like the orange flash is more under the transmission or engine. You can see it inboard of the drivers front tire.

They are aerodynamic, but slower than watching paint dry.

Yep, also bad for drag racing, or at least there are distinct advantages to longer wheelbase, compared to the same vehicle type with shorter wheelbase.
