any idea why the valves hit?

It either broke the timing chain or the camshaft. I haven't got the timing chain cover off yet. Even the tab on the rotor that contacts the center of the cap was wadded up. Apparently a rapid stop is hard on things.

I put a new top end and the D1 on it last winter. Guess I should have checked those bearings too!! LOL. Thing that really sucks is it was the last pass I was going to make this year. The previous two passes that day were a 9.82@138 and 9.86@137 both beat my previous personal best. The pass when it let go was still a 10.13@12something. Power brakes don't work worth a shit when the motor scatters itself, lol. I have a pretty good time shutting that 3700 pound pig down after that.

I cant count how many time a racing buddy has said that they run the best a couple minutes before failure or "I just ran my best time ever! Guess its time for a rebuild." LOL
