Why do that when they could just use their little plastic helmets.

The article stated 5K, and while possible, that's definitely more than your average bike. You can get a carbon bike for as little as $1500 nowadays. Wheels, other parts, etc. though do add up. It doesn't matter what the cost is though, the guy was a jerk.

It was funny reading the comments on the article. Cagers blaming cyclists and vice versa. The thing to remember is that everyone has to abide by the laws of the road. I hate it when I'm driving and someone on a bike blows through a stop sign or stop light. It's unsafe and pisses me off. So, when I ride, I stop and try to do all the things the right way instead of the way that would piss me off while driving and seeing riders. It does make me sick and at times afraid when someone is just being an asshole. I was riding on a road the other way with 3 lanes in my direction. I was riding in the right hand 1/3 of the right lane. There was ZERO traffic. Some idiot came flying up and buzzed by me on the left with less than 2 feet to spare. There was no need for that -- he turned left in half a mile too. Common sense needs to prevail.

So why was the bike in front of the truck with the guy leaving?

Looks like they were trying to keep the old guy from leaving? Would that be illegal or would it be within their right to exercise a citizens arrest?

I think he had already hit that guy, because they said he was leaving the scene of an accident

To stop him, obviously! He made that old man think twice about running over that bike & leaving... wait, no he didn't.

Around here cyclists tend to impede traffic quite a bit. I finally had a chance to get around this one cyclist, I romped on it an was no where close to him, but apparently my loud exhaust scared the shit out of him. So he was flipping me off. He was riding by himself, no others.

Its not about your right as a cyclist to ride in the middle of the road, it is about self preservation. One teenager or anybody texting that runs over your ass, really takes your rights off the table. Just sayin...

We may have to share the road with bikes. However, it's like the "Pedestrians have the right a way" law - you really need to think about it if you're a ped, bicyclist, or on a motorcycle.

Had a very similar thing happen but the guy rode the next 1.5 miles at a frantic pace trying to catch up to me. Bikes shouldn't be on the roadway IMO.
