Simple motor, simple setup. I don't think it was a drill bit, it was pulling the wood into it like it is threaded.

basically like a big wood screw attachment on the end of an electrical motor. they make a similar setup that works on a tractors pto.

I used to have a PTO version on my old tractor. They are actully quite safe. The screw edges are not sharp enough to snag clothing. You still want to treat one with respect.

Holy shit, damned thing is 180 dollars. I was guesstimating more like 20-50 dollars. haha
