I've had that cd for a few months now, some of the songs I like, but some of them just don't interest me at all, it's kind of hit or miss. I think I like the drummer better, I almost get tired of all the sweeps and tapping.

For my first introduction to his music, that sucks. It's a disjointed cacaphone of sounds, which is what I guess passes for jazz these days.
He has skills for sure. It would be nice if the music was palatable. Kind of like a new Veyron versus a '62 250 GTO. I know which is faster but I also know which I would rather have. When the government pays, the government controls.

Wow… sounds like a merger of tired 70’s fusion with Satriani’s playing from the late 80’s. I’d hardly call this evolutionary. Boring, dissonant, cold and atonal would be more apt descriptors.
There’s a huge difference between being a great guitarist and a great songwriter. It’s akin to the difference between a typist and a writer. This guy obviously has technical ability, no doubt honed over thousands of hours of practice, but fleet fingers do not by themselves generate memorable compositions. There’s no musicality – no soul.
I am not a fan of the Beatles but I can recognize their contribution to music. Taken as a band they were all, at best, very average players. The strength of their music was the songs themselves. 100 years from now people will still be listening to Eleanor Rigby or A Day in the Life. They will not be listening to Waves of Babies.

You're comparing a band with vocals to an instrumental band. A band that sang about freedom, love, and revolution during a revolutionary time to a band that sings about...oh wait, they don't have vocals, in a time where Justin Bieber is gonna win a grammy. While not revolutionary like the beatles music, the style is definitely evolutionary."Any dog under 50lbs is a cat and cats are pointless." - Ron Swanson
