I was hanging around USA Motorsports back in the day when they had a guy from a nearby shop come in to run a car they just finished for a customer. I can't remember if it was Travis or Archie running the car, but about 3/4 of the way through the pull there was a very loud bang, followed by the driveshaft flopping against the ground, they broke and flew out from under the car towards the driver side, missed us by a few feet.
From now on I try to stay at least 10 feet away from a car on the dyno, except for one time when Brooks was dynoing Tony's blue coupe and wanted me to stand next to the car and watch the boost gauge during the pull for him. Scary shit.
Anyways, it broke the u joints, drive shaft, fucked the tailhousing up, and actually cracked the block on the car if I remember correctly. It was a green 94-98 Cobra, I think.

The crown of the DYNO roller is unlike any surface you could ever drive on. It is not flat like a street/race surface. It is equivalent to doing a burn out on a parking block. It has nothing to do with the tire not being able to grow. Once you run a bias ply tire on a dyno roller it is forever trashed.
