  • 777 wing load test

This is old, but it is an awesome example of the engineering that went into the 777. I can't wait to get my hands on this machine!

This Boeing 777 wing was tested to destruction, finally breaking at one fifty four percent of the designed limit load.

It's been posted before, but it's till cool as hell. I've seen all of the tests for the F35. They are hard to watch.

Too bad at most facilities you cannot take pictures, it is fun designing equipment to break stuff.

Not nearly as exciting as Tex Johnson barrel-rolling the "new" 747, but cool nonetheless.

Ive watched the F-35 wing load tests. Pretty awesome stuff. There is a building in FTW that does only this to various LM aircraft that come through.

Pretty sure it was a 707, but the point remains

I know which building you are talking about. I spent my last 7 years there right across form it at the engine shop. We had no restrooms at the engine so we had to use theirs. I know what you are talking about because I saw them do the F111 and the F16. I never got to see them do the F35 because I retired from there. By the way this is not Brandon it is his Dad.

                            154% of maximum service loading.

FARs require 1.5 times maximum load, so failure at 1.54 is pretty impressive.

Edit: I suspect I missed your sarcasm.

                              Are you?

The 777 is a really cool aircraft. It's awesome to stand next to one, and then realize that (on the the 300, this is) all 777,000 lbs of that can fly...
