      The mounts for JATOs?

Fat Albert rules! Although they always do that takeoff empty, which is a waste of the JATOs.

You should search for the "reverse thrusters" versions. Great theory....... Not so much in practice....

They no longer perform JATO takeoffs. The stocks of JATOS have pretty much dwindled to zero. The Newer C-130Js do not even have provisions for JATO rockets.

I got to ride on Fat Albert at the Alliance air show back in 2009 right before they stopped doing the JATOs. It was one hell of a ride.

Our unit used to host the Angels when they did their 420 day phase inspection on Fat Albert. They brought it in for their 420 day inspection not long after that video was shot. They had a sizeable crack in the wing box. That's kind of a big deal haha. It was what caused a fire fighting C-130 to loose it's wings in mid flight.

I wonder why they did that, just to see if they could?
My understanding is that in certain areas of the Pacific C-2 Greyhounds do not have the range to make it to a carrier. At least at that time they didn't they might now.

They had been toying with the idea for a while with some Navy pilots practicing it. They needed an engine for one of the jets delivered so they used that as an opportunity to perform these landings and takeoffs.
