Is one already designated as the my key ? If so, how do you identify it ?
Nope, but just so we are clear you're not programming the key, more the ECM when that key is used. Put either key in, go through settings and find the my key feature and then go through settings. As said before, you can set things like max engine rpm, max speed, max radio volume, etc... Once done, any time that key is used those features will be set and can't be changed. When the other key is used those features are not turned on. Just remember which key is which...
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776
Nice car, but you should have bought him a shit box that you and he could have worked on to teach him some valuable skills, along with "if you appreciate this pile of shit and take care of it, good things will come your way".
My first vehicle didn't even run, but i got to spend several months rebuilding it and bonding with my dad. I remember trying to get home from school as fast as I could to work on that damn thing. It was a great experience that I greatly value.
He did buy my sister a new explorer and told me "I bought her a new car because I was worried about her breaking down somewhere and getting raped, not so much with you".
And I can really see both sides of the coin on a kids first car.
If you have an already responsible kid (or what can be called responsible at 16) and they have lots of activities that keep them busy/out of trouble/ the need for reliable transport then a new car seems to make sense. My sister was like that and got a few new cars from my folks before she was done with college. My folks could afford to do it and she always took care/ appreciated them.
On the other hand some kids need projects and shit boxes. I fell under this category... My dad has never really been a car guy though so we didn't get that sort of bonding.
We only have one boy so far and he is about 14 years from driving so I have time to figure out which category he falls under. I really hope to get him a car he can take pride in and fix up with me a few years prior but time will tell.
barry musta hit the lotto..... my car, new bike. share the wealth homie!
god bless.
Lol, both payments combined are less than most peoples car payment. Motor cycle is $145.00/ month
Car is $201.00/month.
Paid the truck off this year. Buying used helps. May not ever buy a new vehicle again.

He helps with the camaro from time to time. A lot of truth to what you are saying. Just trying to set his tastes high in order to get him focused on a career so he can keep up his life style.
That and I dont want to work on any thing now days. Lol

Valid points. Understand too, I live on the McKinney/Frisco border and I see a lot of kids up here that are given rides that high earners drive and have to finance. It is setting these kids up for failure, more so because the parents appear to be buying temporary favor with their kids, even though their involvement seems to be limited and largely for appearance reasons or for sports. There are some spoiled rotten shitheads in this part of the world!
I've had contacts that have downsized so they can buy their kids new cars. It's pretty damn wild.

But you are syncing a specific key to work with these restrictions...right ?
Since I bought used, I need to know which key is the admin key.. correct ?
Right, restrictions will be key specific.
Never actually tried mine, just going from memory. Not sure if there is an admin key.

There is no "master" "slave key. Just open the owners manual and it will run you through step by step on how to set it up. Then make sure its his key you programed and not yours. LOL
As started you can set max RPM so he can still merge without hindering anyone yet cant hammer WOT runs. You can set max speed so you don't have to worry about tickets. You can set max radio which is really good because kids tend to get lost in loud music and forget they are doing something important..... like not running over people. I think it can even be set so you cant pull it out of Park without a seatbelt on.
Good judgment comes from bad decisions and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

Ok got it all set now. Mainly wanted top speed of 80 and to disable turning off the traction control. Neither key was set as admin/restricted. I was worried some one played with it prior to me owning it.
