I'll keep this in mind if I ever happen to be out in the middle of nowhere with a chainsaw and a spare fan belt and I leave my lights on and run my battery down. Because that has happened to me before...never.

I've had a battery die while out camping before. Sadly I didn't have a chainsaw. Gratefully, I had a manual trans and roll started that bitch.

Unless you have a completely dead battery and an EFI vehicle... then you are still fucked

Pretty sure this is useless, alternator needs signal to "excite" the rectifier. Now maybe if you turn the key to "on" prior to doing this you have a chance of making this work.

Also 99% sure the alternator does not care if it spins backwards.

The battery won't charge unless the regulator allows it to. If the batteries are completely dead, there's no way for the regulator to allow the alternator to begin charging.

Most modern vehicles won't allow it without a corresponding crank signal

While I have never charged a battery with a chain saw, I have jump-started a Ford Pickup with a Dewalt 18v battery for cordless saw.

That looks like a total pain in the dick. Aren't jumper boxes cheaper than chainsaws anyway?
