When I bought my first car just after I graduated from UT-Austin in 1967, I got a '67 while Mustang Coupe, standard 289 2V with a C4 and red interior....radio, heater and NO A/C! My father paid for the car and I then paid him back with monthly installments. I remember the car was right at $3000. Next to it in the new car lot was a white Fastback with a 390, a new engine for that year. I really wanted that car, but I did not have much say so at the time. My father looked at the tag on the Fastback and said it was too expensive...$3500! Of course, $500 more was a big deal in those days.
I always liked the Fastback style and a 390 was a big deal, even then. I remember putting wider redline tires on mine, dual exhaust and not much more. I was not a car nut then, but the car was sharp looking and sounded fast!
Got married, had a my first kid in 1969 and needed a bigger car. The Mustang had to go and along came a 1970 Ford Galaxie 500, a big 351W and COLD air! Now we're talking!
