One of the biggest cliche's in my military training was, it isnt the things you expect that will make an operation fail. The dog owner was being a distraction, and a general nuisance to the raid at hand. Im sure the intention was to detain, and put him somewhere they could control, because he was trying to get a rise out of them, and taking away from their ability to control a perimeter. I only feel sorry that the beautiful rotty had such a dumbass owner.

If you want to question the raid, take a video, post it online, submit it to the city council. Throw it on the police chief's fb page...whatever. There were ways this guy could have exercised his right to free speech that didnt put his dog in the line of fire, and wouldnt have interfered with the police doing their job.
    From CBS LA:

Attorney Michael Gulden said his client Leon Rosby was watching and taking video of the Hawthorne SWAT team when police claimed Rosby was obstructing officers during the barricade.

Rosby is seen in video footage walking with the dog – which appeared to be a Rottweiler – near several patrol cars to capture the scene on his phone.

After an exchange with nearby officers, Rosby is heard saying the words, “civil rights violation” before returning the dog to his vehicle.

As officers begin to proceed toward Rosby, he also begins walking in the direction of the officers and is then taken into custody without any further exchange.

While Rosby is handcuffed, the dog is seen escaping from the vehicle through an open rear window and then approaching the officers while barking.

When one officer motions toward the animal, the dog is seen jumping up and toward the officer, at which point four shots were fired, according to Gulden.
A video of police arresting a man in Hawthorne, Calif., appears to show them shooting his dog, Max, dead at the scene.

Police arrested Leon Rosby, 52, after he tried to film a police raid with his cell phone, according to CBS. Police said his loud music and his behaviour was obstructing the officers' response to an armed robbery call. But Rosby wasn't the only person filming nearby, because a video of his arrest posted online on June 30 shows the entire scene unfolding.

Footage shows Rosby standing on the street with his dog, a Rottweiler, near several police cruisers. Two officers approach him as he puts his dog into a car. They handcuff him, the dog jumps out and runs toward them and the officer shoots the animal several times as bystanders scream.
Someone else doesn't know the difference between someone being detained, and being arrested.

Again, reasonable suspicion. I saw no reason to suspect him of any crime.
I was just letting you know that you can be detained for reasonable suspicion and PC is not needed to detain for future reference. I wasn't implying this individual was a suspect of any crime.

        you're quoting the media?

        If this...

"Police arrested Leon Rosby, 52, after he tried to film a police raid with his cell phone, according to CBS"

were the true reason, then the guy that was recording the Rott owner would have been arrested too.

I'm trying to figure out what that guy's stance is on the issue, he appears to be on both sides of it.

So you don't know if he's armed but you know you and your friends are. Explain how you're not a threat to him.

See, I've worked a secure perimeter. You know what we weren't allowed to do? "Detain" individuals who were running their heads but not aiming a weapon at us. And these individuals had AK's strapped across their backs. And that was a war zone.

                      • I like how they watched it thrash in pain instead of putting it down. If you are going be tough, arrest somebody, and shoot their dog, at least have the guts to put it down immediately.

Aren't most departments comprised of about 50% (or more) ex-military?
How do we forget ourselves? How do we forget our minds?

Could you imagine the outrage if an officer walked up and headshot that dog to put it down?

It's similar to bouncers jerking off to Road House, the lines get blurred.
