Just got back...we went as far as Memphis, figured it wasn't going to get much better after a long night on Beale street after-which someone was so drunk they pissed in the corner of the hotel room in the middle of the night!

We had a larger group of which most pussed out early, so ended up with...

My good friend Mark and his Pop Jimmy. He took his 66' F100 that he inherited from his Grandpa who bought it new...Now has a 427 side oiler with tunnel port heads, built on a Genesis block. With two 600+ CFM Holley's on top it netted 8.5 mpg on the way out....managed to get 12 mpg on the way home keeping a steady 70 mph....

My good friend and neighbor Glen (Dentguru on this board). Thrashed on his 85' up until 2am Sunday (about 6-hours before we pulled out). The car finally turned 80K original miles on this trip (although on it's 3rd or 4th engine now)....has had less than 10K put on it since he has owned it...about 15 years now....

Some of my personal favorites (was really digging the 2nd gen F-bodies this year)....

The green firebird was sweet. Did you happen to see the green 66 mustang coupe with the LS engine, thought that was different.

I didn't see that Mustang, bet that was cool though. Interesting thing on those Pontiacs...we saw Year One loading the LS powered ones up and hauling them to each stop...however, the only one they had with Poncho power was being driven...had a fuel injected Butler 461 in it.

Was in the parking lot at our hotel in Texarcana too....

From what I saw in Arlington, the theme was "yes, an LS-style engine will fit in your vehicle... no matter what!"

And the Year One Turbo Firebird was the shizzle!

We all agreed that the LS engines were a little over the top this time...I like them just as much as the next guy but they were in every corner you turned. Just about every classic bit of GM iron you could imagine had them, including a couple Corvairs. There was also a rear engine dragster being hauled around with a carb'd LS in it. Saw several Foxes with them, 73-87 Pickups and Suburbans, a BMW, couple Nissans, an older Toyota truck, Datsun Z-cars, at least 1 Fiero, and even an old International Travel-All....just to name a few that come to mind.

It was honestly kind of a breath of fresh air to see some of the cars that were actually still running old-school power...like the black TA above...440 and Hemi Mopars, some good Buicks, and some of the old Fords running FE power, Y-blocks, etc.

The Chevy-II wagon with Buick GN running gear was damned cool! We talked to them several times...he had 3 buddies riding with him, they came down from Iowa and were long hauling to NC. We'd see them pulled over making sandwiches on the tail gate, hanging out in the evening drinking beers, etc. He said it had been stone reliable since put together...just a mild build, but still making good power, and getting over 20mpg most of this trip.

Tell Glenn not to blow it up. Looks like fun.

He's getting a 331 together for it...the 308 was starting to burn a bit of oil by the time we got out there....smoking a bit on decel and between gears the whole way home. I think those valve seals are shot.

Looks like y'all had some fun...

I saw a few of the cars last Sunday morning as I was going to Church... coming down Hwy 80 through Wills Point. It was quite the parade of cool iron.

Got any engine pics of the tunnel port FE in the red truck?
