When I went on a ride along with him last year, we picked up a panhandler. Dude gets in the back of the car and reeked of booze. Must have been no later than 9 in the morning. He had a lot of history with FWPD.

There are plenty of shelters around. Plenty of places like Mission Arlington. I won't give cash to panhandlers....however I have given food.

My brother bounces couch to couch because he is a poor decision maker. Can not save more than $10 till next payday. He approaches every Friday flat broke. Those are his choices. A lot of our friends and family will not loan him shit. Cause it is not a loan but more of a gift. If he wants money he has to come to my house and work for it. I feel better paying him for work vs just giving him money.

If I knew there were more like him, I wouldn't hesitate giving some money. Problem is, so many people take advantage of someone willing to give money for things like drugs and alcohol. I would rather take the person, and buy them food or room, so I know where the money is going.

I've found that most homeless people are homeless because of choice, and because of a long string of bad life choices.

A day laborer can earn $100 cash in 9-10 hours and a lot of employers will provide lunch as well.

I agree with previous sentiments that the overwhelming majority of the homeless population are mentally ill and/or rack up such a deep criminal history that obtaining (and then holding) even a mediocre job is all but impossible.

When I drove into Washington State for the first time, I took the first exit to grab a bite, and there was a bum with a sign talking on a cell. lol

Day labor places are random selection. Just because you go there doesn't mean you will get picked. A bum could find it more time consuming to beg vs. waiting all day to get picked for nothing.

Everyone has a story. If you don't wanna hear it, best not to assume.
