I had the same fear, human dominoes. It exceeds 60* in one section, which is tricky to get traction on smooth, slick rock. After having no legs left, it was a forearm blast at the end.

I disagree with the video, it was much easier going down.

And the hike back was pure torture.

You hiked Half Dome in a crappy old pair of Air Jordans?

Yes. Well Air Jordans, not sure about the crappy part

I have several pairs, got my first ones in 4th grade. The pair I'm wearing in the pic are almost 20 years old. I think you can tell I've got my monies worth out of them.

I like flat soled shoes, and I know how these do on my feet. The ankle support was great, and I had no issues. I will admit they weren't ideal for the last part where it's all granite, they were slippery.

Did you camp? Or for those that have camped what's it like? I personally like more remote camping. I don't like when the tent sites on on top of each other

I camped the first time, at Housekeeping Camp. I liked it. They allow outdoor fires and it's right in the valley.

This trip the girls didn't want to camp, so we stayed in a hotel 1.5 hours from the park. BOO! Next time I'm gonna tent camp.

Bad part about Yosemite, there are shit loads of people during the peak season, and almost everything is filled to capacity. If you really wanna be remote, just set up camp anywhere. No fires though.

Half Dome hike superimposed over Manhattan for a sense of scale.

All these pictures are more motivation to keep me training for my Rim to Rim hike at the Grand Canyon! Its going to be brutally hot in late August but that's when our permit is good for. I am going to surprise the other hikers and my wife with a steak dinner at Phantom Ranch which is the halfway point. They have to Donkey in the meat to cook. I defiantly want to hit up Yosemite and do the Half Dome hike it looks amazing.

We planned on 4 days to do it, starting at 4:30 am each day and hiking til 10-11am then take rest then picking back up around 5-6 til we get to our camp. The only part that has to be done by 10 am is when we hit The Box which will cook you like you were in an oven. The 90+ days plus the humidity while hiking up some vertical trails for hours won't even be close since there is altitude to deal with. This is the first time to the Canyon and I will be heading into it belly which only 1% of people ever do when visiting. I will post some pics.
