        Exactly.

And have you priced rooms at The Ahwahnee? A waitress told me they were in the $500/night range. Was she about right?

I haven't yet, but that doesn't surprise me considering the location. It's not a $50 a night Motel 6 in the middle of nowhere TX, and it's about the only place I would consider $500 a night to be worth it, and I'd imagine that there's a waiting list, or you have to book well in advance.

Yeah, I was going to make a dinner reservation there one night and was told about the dress code. My flannel and hiking shoes didn't fit the bill

EDIT: Looked up some rooms. Couldn't find any openings in the near future but a Monday night in September is $496.

Like I told you when I was out there - after living/hiking/exploring/offroading in Colorado, Yosemite flat out fucking blew me away, it's like no place else.

My first moment of Holy Shit! was when I drove through the tunnel (Coming from Fresno) after being in the park. You wind and wind and wind on roads with beautiful forests but have no idea of how magnificent the part actually is going to be. Then you emerge from the tunnel to this landscape that can't be contained in a picture or captured in words. I literally sat there for an hour, sitting on a rock ledge trying to take in as much as I could so I wouldn't forget it.

BTW, it took me a while to find this.

Remember The Land Before Time? When he finds The Great Valley? Yeah, that's how it felt in Yosemite

Awesome pics, dude! I was there last week for vacation, second time in two months. I hiked to the top of half dome, it was no joke! 18 miles round trip, 11 hours, climbed over 5,000 feet. My out of shape ass barely made it, but I was the only one of our group of four that did. I almost didn't go up the cables but no way was I gonna go 95% and not reach the top.

It was sketchy as hell. My legs were like jelly and I was exhausted. The poles that support the cables flop around, and in some cases it's a long gap between resting points. Plus you have people of varying skills trying to go up and down the same path at the same time. My shoes sucked on the slippery granite too. Of the 50+ people I passed going up and down, only one person clamped onto the cables. This video describes it better than I ever could.

Oh, we didn't take the same trail as the video, we look a longer route. So I didn't go up the stairs on the lower part of the hike, we went through the woods. It added four more miles, but I think we had a lot more shade and didn't have to worry about wet rocks. We took the John Muir trail instead.

                              That is relatively safe lol

wow. Those cables really do look sketchy. I don't have a fear of heights per se but I'd be terrified of somebody falling and then suddenly an avalanche of people are rolling down that mofo.
