  • Pics from Yosemite last week

Next summer's epic hike will bring us back to the valley here, but there really won't be a chance to see everything. So what's one to do? Make two trips!

Mid may and the melt was in full force so all the falls were at peak flow. If nature is your thing then Yosemite needs to be on your bucket list.

I'll post some more later as I get around to it - this is just what I pulled off my GoPro this morning.

These are in the order they were taken. It kinda goes from "oh, that's cool" to "fucking wow."

First real view of the valley:

El Capitan under clouds. There's really no sense of scale here because everything is so massive, but here's an idea - this wall is is 3,000 ft tall.

    Bridalveil Fall

    Merced River

    El Cap minus the clouds

    Cathedral Beach

    800 miles in 4 days in a Challenger R/T

View of Yosemite Falls from Swinging Bridge

    Midday drinks at The Ahwahnee

    Merced River

Upper and Lower Yosemite Falls (2,425 ft) - this is the 6th tallest waterfall in the world and the tallest in North America.

Lower Yosemite Fall (320 ft)- there are people on the rocks for scale

View of the eastern part of the valley from Glacier Point -Half Dome, Nevada Fall, and Vernal Fall out there

Western part of the valley from Glacier Point - that's Yosemite Falls in the middle

    Sequoias in the Mariposa Grove

And finally "Tunnel View." Probably the most recognizable visual from the park

Like a pic of the fattest coyote i've ever seen that walked up on us while we were eating lunch up near Glacier Point.

                  Did you hike half dome?

Like I told you when I was out there - after living/hiking/exploring/offroading in Colorado, Yosemite flat out fucking blew me away, it's like no place else.

My first moment of Holy Shit! was when I drove through the tunnel (Coming from Fresno) after being in the park. You wind and wind and wind on roads with beautiful forests but have no idea of how magnificent the part actually is going to be. Then you emerge from the tunnel to this landscape that can't be contained in a picture or captured in words. I literally sat there for an hour, sitting on a rock ledge trying to take in as much as I could so I wouldn't forget it.

Didn't have time to get up Half Dome. Thought about hiking from the valley floor up to the top of Yosemite Falls but opted to head to the Mariposa Grove instead. I'll get my fill of hiking there next summer.

You're absolutely right about how stunning it is. The sheer size of everything is amazing. The trees, the falls, the cliffs, the sky... you really can't capture it. I took the GoPro so I could get some wide-angle pics but that's not the same. It's like the valley is just filled with... awe? I don't even know.

While driving b/w the park and Sonora one day we decided we could retire in the Sierra Nevada range and be happy as shit.

We also found ourselves just sitting on rocks staring at nothing and everything all at once.

That's when I took this pic LOL. We literally stopped and sat on two boulders and just stared at the falls for 20 minutes (and then I sent the pic to you, slider, and brett to make you jealous )

Good to see the faucets are back on Matt, the falls were slightly more than a trickle last September. It's my favorite place in the US, the quintessential example of what "Mother Nature" is.

Last year taught me that I'll unfortunately never hike any distance again because of my leg, so my next trip down there will be for a "touristy" stay at the Ahwahnee. I've always camped, so it'll be a different experience doing the hotel version with hot showers and good restaurant fare.

I know you're asking Matt, but that's the only hike that I was able to do, and not the fun one to the top, but the hike to the base. As I am sure that you both can attest too, as beautiful as they are, looking at the pictures doesn't come remotely close to conveying the majesty.

                          From the base looking up.

This is a big ass rock.
