Outside of being a shithole, I like New Orleans/southern LA.

Texas Pete is everywhere. It is a military chow hall staple. Been like that since I was a young Marine loading it up on my chili-mac or salsbury steak.

You just can't beat Louisiana hot sauce though on Popeyes. I think this trip home I will get a case of the packets from the Popeyes down the street and mail them to myself.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

I feel the same way. I love to go back and spend a weekend at my Uncle's cabin near West Monroe. West Monroe and Monroe have several good things going for them these days but I don't think I'll ever move back.

Especially since we now have a Johnny's Pizza in DFW.

Monroe is just South Arkansas, with hot sauce.

JK, Monroe has some cool places as well. Home of Delta Airlines. Born from a crop dusting strip just north of Monroe. For years they held their annual board meetings there(Monroe).

I live in Mandeville, north shore of Lake P., Keep my boat in Slidell. If you stay away from New Orleans east, ninth ward and parts of the west bank, it's not a bad place to live. I like it better than the DFW area. Life is not one big rat race down here.

My mother and her brothers and their mother were all born in Metairie, LA. My grandmother lived in NOLA her whole life until she passed back in 1994. I remember going to Mardi Gras all the time. Loved the food out that way.

I spend a ton of my time in Louisiana for work and I hate it and the people who reside there. You couldn't pay me enough to live in that shithole of a state.

This thread got me gathering info about my great grandparents and beyond in LA. I come from the Tujagues (the same that owned the restuarant) in New Orleans that came from France in the 1850's....but why do I dislike the French so much?. My uncle provided me lots to read.

Slidell, Mandeville, and Hammond are great places to live. With the Katrina migration north, my mother's home town of Amite is somewhat changed these days. It is slowly returning to what it was.
I am looking at some land in Maurpas to purchase to retire. On the water, of course.

Slidell has really gone to shit according to the older generations. The New Orleans East population has started moving into Slidell. The crime rate has increased along with the amount of murders.
