I think there's alot being overlooked here in the quality of the "blast beats" To be able to play at that speed with accuracy is incredible. Weather or not you like this music or not its more about the capability being shown. Don't think for one minute these guys cant and don't also play classical and jazz to hone there skills all around just because that's not what they are displaying here.

That's my problem with it. Yes, it's impressive and requires immense abilities, but it's also fundamentally missing the mark on what (I think) music is about. Music isn't a sport.

You yourself already said it's not about the music, it's about the capabilities. I didn't say anything about the quality of the music, because quite frankly I don't care (There are a billion things it violates about the use of space and tone in music, but I'm not here to debate that). Intent is what's important to me in music, and his intentions, at least per you, are to showcase his abilities.

There was never any denying of his abilities. You're the one who said it's more about the capabilities than the music itself, or else we'd be debating the merits of the music and not of his capabilities, which no one is debating.

Which is why I'm generally unmoved by such displays. The ones who can keep it in their pants and make some really good music are what impress me, even if they may be technically flawed at some level.

Steve Gadd is an example of a dude that has all of the chops in the world, and then some, but his work with Steely Dan and Stuff was fantastic because it wasn't him waving his dick around in the air with music accompanying it, it was Gadd making a concerted effort to be a musician and not a drummer. Drummers often mistake being a drummer for being a musician; they are not one in the same. It's why Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa make me go 'meh' and Joe Morello makes my dick stand straight up.

It takes lots of groove to meet the metronome time, lots of feel to sync with the metronome and lastly lots of emotion to perfect his ability to play with the metronome at that speed and accuracy.



But lets not forget the cowbell.
