  • Picked up an old Mopar at Goodguys

Never been a Mopar guy but Katrina saw this one Sunday out at Goodguys and dug it so we stopped by and talked to the owner about it.

Supposedly a two owner, original mile, running, driving 1965 Dodge Dart GT 2 door hardtop, Dark blue over light blue interior with white vinyl landau roof and a 273 Slant Six and three speed auto. Power steering, power brakes, and not a single bit of rust through anywhere on the car.

They had $5500 obo on the window. Owner said he had a couple offers of $4000 but hadn't accepted because the other potential buyers were wanting to go hack it up and make a race car out of it and it was in too good of shape for that so once we convinced him we were just gonna make a nice driver out of it, he agreed to $4000 and we drove it home.

So far I can tell it needs probably a brake switch since the stop lights don't come on but all the other lights work just fine. Even the trunk light.

The power booster isn't working either but plans eventually are going to be discs up front and some nicer wheels and tires and just cruise it around.

If any of you Mopar guys know of good places to be on the lookout for info and parts for these things feel free to put your two cents in

That appears to be a 225 slant six. The 273 was a small V8.

You got a great car at a great price! Personally I would lower it a little bit, put a nice set of Cragar S/Ss on it, maybe even some pinner whites. Have fun with it!

Sweet, I like those Darts. I hack it up and make a race car out of it though. It's like a mini Max Wedge.

That really is a steal. I'm seriously jelly. I have a thing for A-bodies in general.
Oh, and I'll give you a shout when the brake light switch comes in.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that car's major boner. Those early-mid 60s A bodies have a unique wheel bolt pattern, 5 on 4-inch. Everyone converts em to standard Mopar 5x4.5". Remember it has left hand thread lug nuts on the driver's side.

As long as you like it, it doesn't matter if a 90 year old blue hair should be driving it.

I am getting ready to sell a few old mopars. We have about 14 project cars and about 5 pickups and a vintage race hauler dodge D500 project. Most of the cars are 70-74 A-bodies, a couple of 64-66 A-bodies, a couple 76-79 volares/aspens, 71 Charger, and a 74 Charger.

Yup, wheels were the first thing she wanted me to look for. Summit has a few in that bolt pattern. Cragars are my favorite by far though. Anything is better than the stock 13" wheels on it right now! Need to decide if we're swapping to the larger bolt pattern when doing the disc swap. If I'm reading right i can pull the parts off any A body up to 76 and they bolt on.

Definitely do the front disc brake upgrade. Convert the rear axles and drums to 5x4.5" at the same time. Gonna be a costly deal (brakes-lines-hoses-dual master cylinder, axles-seals-drums, wheels-tires-lugs) but well worth it. It will make the car better to drive and worth more when you go to sell it.
