We had been looking for a project for my brother in law and I came across this just outside of Lubbock. The price was right and the body is in reasonable shape with very little rust. We are just now getting into the meat of it so thought I would make a thread. Sorry for some of the poor images I keep forgetting to bring anything but my phone when I am back working on it.

We had planned to keep the Y-block and straight axle, but that changed when we found that the block has been damaged by standing/frozen water. I knew of a cheap 98 F-fbody so we picked that up and found a Jaguar XJ6 subframe for the front.

Everything chassis related on the front is complete and the motor and trans mounts are done. We just found a good explorer 8.8 so parts are on order to get that mounted above the stock springs.

      thanks

It looks like my dad finished grinding the portion I welded and began painting it. Just got this in a text. His images are even worse than mine. You can see the finished XJ6 subframe in the back there and it appears to have been painted as well. The frame ends are not coated because they will be shortened in moving the bumper back.

I want a set, but have a hard time with the pricing. I just picked up a used set of 235/70/16 to roll it around and test for fit with. They are around 29", but I almost feel like I need to go ever taller in the rear to make it look right.

As for slamming the rear should be 6" lower than stock and the front will end up maybe 1.5" taller than the truck on the far left here. It has the XJ6 subframe mounted directly to the chassis where as ours uses the factory isolators.

Badass minus the non ford motor... purest. Cant stand gm motors in fords. Im still interested in the outcome. That style of f100 is my all time fav. The expendables movie did it for me!
P.S. the bullet holes need to stay! Lol

Looking forward to seeing the progress. What are you planning for the rear? Straight axle or something like a T-Bird / Mark VIII IRS?

Its just getting the 8.8 mounted above the stock leafs for now.

My dad finished mounting the tank and sent me this.

Looks like he went ahead and put the subframe under it to get the motor back in again. Need to check for trans clearance when fabricating the front cab/rubbing board mount crossmember. The hubs and springs should be going on once we can get our hands on the jag specific spring compression tool.

I freakin' love that body style of truck. As cheesy as the show is, the truck on American Restoration makes my pee pee wiggle every time I see it. Do it in black please, lol.

Nice truck. I'll be watching this one!

When I was growing up, my uncle had a '56 big window F100 that he put a 429 SCJ engine in, mounted about 6" further back than stock. He chopped the roof three inches and channeled the body over the frame. It was pretty badass, even though it never got out of primer. I think because of that truck, this bodystyle has always been my favorite.

Here's Chip Foose's excellent example. Love all the subtle changes to the roof of this one.

I wish we could have found one of the big window trucks, but they demand a bit more that we had in the budget.

I just ordered another group of parts and will be sure to update as it comes together.

The original color on the truck was black. The red is the factory primer that came through after the black faded.
