No I used a factory take off harness and began to modify it. It's really easy just very time consuming the way I am doing it. I want the wires as much out of the way as possible but with minimal cutting required. Thus far I have only soldered about 10-15 wires and mostly due to needing them shortened. The oxygen sensor wires were very long so I cut them down, coolant temp needed a little added, couple ground wires needed shortened, and I put all the power wires to the coils and injectors on one wire per side and running them to its own fuse. Other then that it has layed out nicely. I plan to used a couple clamps one on the back of each head to hold the harness in place so it can't move around.

Awesome. I haven't even pulled my motor yet out of the donor so plan on marking everything and being careful not to cut any wires (until I put it in my C10) I'd like to clean everything up just like you are doing. I'm subscribed

Don't you live over near me? For some reason it seems like I remember that. I live in Oak Point out by Little Elm...if so I would love to come check it out to give me some confidence before doing mine

Looks like you are in my area, if you need any help just hit me up. I live a couple miles away from oak point.

Check out this site. it has pretty much every piece of info concerning the wiring harness you will need.

cool...ya I have that site bookmarked for when I take it on, just always makes more sense to me seeing it in person. I live a couple miles down the road from the prairie house so not to far. I hope to be pulling the engine in the next month or so then will start the process of rewiring

Did a little work to the intake, finished smoothing the top. I plan to add a couple coats of filler primer, hit it with a quick sanding by hand to help smooth some of the bumps out and throw some black on it.

Also worked on the heads and got the porting all finished up. Plan to assemble them tomorrow and get them installed! Hoping to fire it up first of next week!

Curious. Could a painless harness handle all this?
Non tapatalk Sig so the butt hurt va-JJs can stop crying about not being able to turn it off.

You doing the heads yourself or having them done?

You can incorporate the factory ls harness into something like a 18 circuit painless setup (that's how mine is setup), or you can incorporate the factory ls harness into the cars oem wiring, or you can buy a stand alone harness from PSI, painless, or a few other places (ranging from 650-900 bucks) then incorporate that into either the cars oem wiring or painless wiring setup.

Think I'd go with whatever is closer to plug in play as possible. Great by the way.

then you'd want to buy a harness. i didn't mind converting the factory unit but nothing is easier then just buying one.

It's just colored wire and splicing, the key is to match the correct colored wire to the other correct colored wire to make the magic happen. You need good diagrams for the wiring from the donor car and for the one getting the motor.
