Really interesting, and incredible if it comes to fruition.

I wondered 8 years ago why we don't have solenoid activated valves, stupid power and tq, perfect idle, better fuel economy

They've been using air actuated valves in F1 for quite some time. I remember hearing that the system broke down in one of the cars and the driver had to drop out of the race. It's still pretty goddamn cool though. No more making fun of the guys for tuning their cars to sound like it's got a big cam in it.

Ford had a testbed truck running around circa 2001, running this style valve system in a little v6 diesel. They all know about it, and there's nothing stopping any of them from running a solenoid on every valve.

I remember seeing a GM design similar to this in a Carcraft years ago... But I don't think the tech was there to make them reliable.

I drew up some ideas for this back in 9th grade auto tech (94). My teacher was very impressed. 6 months later there was an article in Popular Mechanics. 4 valves per cylinder was the way I saw it happening.
IIRC, Volvo and TRW were still working on it the last time this topic came up.

I invented this in 1978 and everyone was impressed. Henry ford gave me $20 for the idea, I was ten at the time and hooked on cocaine so it all worked out well
