Reminds me of a guy in the Marines. He bought a used guitar from a pawn shop from Jacksonville (Camp LeJeune) and taught himself to play.

He couldn't read a lick of music, but he could listen to something and figure out how to play it. After a few months with it, he could duplicate Eddie VanHalen with amazing accuracy. He was a freaking savant with that guitar.

We would go buy him beer just to listen to him play in the barracks.

I wonder what ever happened to that guy...
