Why does anyone care whether or not he made up a girlfriend? Did he use her as an excuse to get out of practice/games or do something illegal? Or is it just sports gossip?
Popular opinion seems to be that he made it all up (her, her "tragic death", etc) to gain sympathy votes to help himself win the Heisman (which he didn't win after all).
