I don't see why this is impressive? What did everyone do who lived in snow states before FWD was a readily available choice...

looks fun till it gets a nice buildup of ice/snow back wheels lift up a lil and your pushing the pos while freezing your ass off. did that with a mustang in amarillo during a winter storm and wont ever do that again

Not necessarily. Not unless snow was extreme. A good set of all season or snow tires worked well.

Ahh yes, the good old steel belted snow tires.

Ah yes, the good old days of driving in snow in Pa. Never had chains. Most of us used saw dust recaps that were studded. Wore out quick but had damn good traction and were cheap. Trip is right about parking the good car during the winter months and driving around in an old beater.. Bought my first 4WD right after I got married as the wife was from Pittsburgh and never really had experience driving in snow..

There was a time when CO only used sand because of the complaints about how rough road salt was on cars. Now, because there are so many fucking idiots on the road, they've resorted to a sand/salt mix.

I always forget about snow tires and always keeping extra wheels/tires around to swap for that weather. You make it happen with what you have.

I don't know how anyone can live without a truck, but I'm from Texas.

Unless it's a 4-wheel drive, trucks are useless in the snow, unless it has either snow/mud tires or 500lbs of sand in the bed.

I had a Toyota 4x4 (81 long bed) that I would take tractor innertubes and fill with gravel. That truck was so damn light that even in 4wd the ass end would scoot around in a turn. I had well over 500lbs in the rear. If I were in heavy snow areas again I'd probably pick up a Subaru or an Audi.

My friend moved to northern Ohio from here and had an RX8 at the time. After the first snow, he immediately went out an bought an STi, which he said was the best driving car he's ever owned for the snow. He got tired of it though and bought an FJ Cruiser, which he said was also an awesome snow vehicle. I would love to drive an STi in the snow, seems like fun.

Other than the road salt, I agree that a car is just a car. I took my M3 up to Apple hill earlier this year, and drove it through a little snow, and alot of mud from the snow melt, and there was actually another E9X M3 there that day.

Oh noes, I got mud on my carpets, what shall I ever do?!

I've been thinking about taking another trip up to Lake Tahoe this winter, and will be running the requisite chains when I do. The car comes with a fold down in the back seat for skis/boards, cars are meant to be driven and used.
