That's not complelty true, people react in different ways.
I had a buddy of mine that had a fairly quick car, ran 5.50s and went strait down the track everytime.
One pass the wheelie bars bent and it went up on the rear bumper and stayed there for about 250' and sat down and kept going. I couldn't believe he pulled it off and didn't slam it.
When he got back to the trailer he said it scared him so bad that he froze up and couldn't let off or do anything and was just along for the ride. Thank god the car handled good, went strait and had a electric shift on it or who knows how bad that would have got.

It looked bad ass watching it thought. lol

When collector's car insurance pays out more than retail sale...

I'm changin my view from he sucks at driving to what Don says... He very much knew what he was doing. Sad times you gotta do that shit to pay the bills. I'd rather not eat than stack my 86 for insurance, and its worth about 1/10th this used to be nice car.

Not that I know anything, but I was told if you pull the wheels stay in it and grab second gear as if you were ready to shift anyways. The gear reduction will drop the front end, but staying in it might save your oil pan vs letting it slam down if you cut throttle. This always made sense to me... if its in a straight line there's no need to let off...

Any theories on what the true motivation for cutting the wheel was? It almost seemed intentional.

I was surprised at how quiet he was after it happened. Kinda like a "well...." Was heard. I would have been cussing like a sailor!

Insurance? Anyone priced out the cost on a race car?

Every race car insurance I have seen is called "keyoff" coverage. A true Cobra Jet does not have a VIN, so its not a real car to most companies.
                              Some cars and a bike...

Some say... they have been raced, some a lot
