  • Gettysburg fifty year reunion in 1913

    Incredible.

I have always found it fascinating (in a very indescribable way) how veterans can meet former adversarys and hold no ill will.

Couldn’t you see yourself doing the same?
A mature mind to me would be able to put belief's aside for compassion, and respect." Those guys had the same about of balls I do to stand up and fight against me as I did them, that is respect". Different times but a great deal can be learned from those times still

Honestly I don't know. I have never been in combat or faced an opponent on the field of battle. However, my Grandpa served in the Pacific and never seemed to hold any resentment for the Japanese people. His brother (who is still alive) on the other hand does so much so that he will blacklist your ass for buying a Japanese automobile.

That is some good stuff right there....lol

I have never been either...but you know, I know my values and morals, and we understand respect. I would like to think of myself as a person who is able to show respect where it is due...if we both survived, it would be one hell of a story to tell and might even have a few good laughs

but then again, its all fantasy in my head and an image of who I wish/would like to be as far as a man

My old man was the same way.. He lost a bunch of friends in the Pacific, and he carried that hatred of the Japanese and anything connected to them to his grave...

I just read a similar story about a stealth pilot and the Serb who shot him down back in 1999 becoming pals afterwards.
The BBC's Guy Delauney in Belgrade reports how a former US Air Force pilot and the man who shot his stealth plane down during Nato's operations in Serbia have struck up a remarkable friendship.

I would rather put a bullet in a Somali or Arab Muslim than sit and talk. But those are subhuman.

My grandpa would beat the shit out of Japs when he saw them. It made for interesting times when the Japanese auto industries started sending executives to Detroit in the late 70's and my grandpa would bump into them on the golf course.
Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.
