        That part of the springs isn't really flat. That is right off a little escarpment that runs out to the east towards the black forest. It's a lot steeper than 4 percent.

          Black Forest is going north. And flat is a relative term. I grew up on the west side and graduated from Manitou Springs, so everything east of 25 is considered 'flat' by comparison.

            True. I lived off of carefree hwy and powers for several yrs. I'm pretty familiar with that road. It's a bitch.

              And one of the worst vehicles is a rear-drive Ranger, even with a "good" driver. I worked a few months in Denver in the winter, and had to be very careful where I drove.
