  • Couple of Pics from Today

My buddy is here visiting. We headed out to see sites and stopped off at Point Bonita Lighthouse. I have a shitload of awesome pics from my time here in San Francisco (I'll get around to posting one of these days) but I found these amazing. This is the first time I've ever seen a bobcat or coyote not give a shit about human presence. We were about 30 feet from the coyote and less than 10 feet from the bobcat (in a car). These were taken 7 miles away from my home in the middle of San Francisco.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

That's badass. Some of mt favorite traveling stories have come from encountering indifferent wildlife. I'd love to see one of those guys up close with no fences.

Drew, Dave and I were playing golf at a course near The Colony and a Coyote was chasing a rabbit on the tee box right beside us. It legitimately was no further than 15 feet away and couldn't have cared less about us watching it frolic in the bushes after whatever it was trying to catch. Coyotes are strange.

That's awesome! We have a ton of yotes and bobcats up at the farm. It's much more rare in my experience, to see the bobcats, and when we do, they are at a great distance. The only time I would ever see them within 150' of the house, is when they would try to get after the chickens and guineas. Last winter, the kids were playing in the barn after lunch, and came in screaming at the top of their lungs, that there was a bobcat in the barn. We all laughed because we haven't had chickens or guineas in several years, but they insisted. I went out there, looked all around, and heard some rustling. I got down on my hands and knees, to look up under some A frames that were stacked up on cinder blocks. I don't know which one of us shit first, but the bitch was 2-3' from my face. I've never moved so fast in my life. I don't know mating patterns or gestation for bobcats, but I can only assume she came in for the cover to birth a litter. She wasn't scared at all, which is very odd. They are usually more scared of humans than the human is of them.

A few years ago I was out on a friends lease in San Saba, TX. The blind I was hunting from was a box blind with solid wall and door on the back but open in the front with just camo burlap on the bottom portion of the "window". It was about 4 feet off the ground. It was dark still when I got to the blind one morning. I climbed the steps, opened the door, and scared the shit out of a sleeping Fox. He bolted out the door towards me. I jumped off the ladder at the same time he did. Did an army roll, so as not to break an ankle... Not sure which one of us was more surprised, but it took 5-10 mins for my heart to slow to normal...

I had an owl come out of a blind like that one morning. Scared the shit out of me and the other hunter that was walking by my blind as I was climbing into it. I was about 12 feet off the ground.
