No need to fix what isn't broken.

      Clearly it's working just fine.

Maybe they are working out the direct injection and efi/management so that when they have to bump mpg's for CAFE they can step up a sohc or dohc and keep going.

you could say ford and gm went two different directions: Ford went away from pushrods and is now working twards DI, while GM put more effort into DI and will have to work away from pushrods. You can bet that the relationships that GM has with Toyota and some others will be fruitfull if they can trade DI tech for head/vvt tech.

Personally, I like the fact that GM is keeping up with ford staying with a traditional single cam all these years. It's been 16 years since ford went DOHC and we're still having this conversation.

and it is still a lot more enjoyable to work on the ls motors. head gaskets, no problem, cam swap, cake, parts availability, second to none!

Id love to see the actual cost numbers on the ls series vs the mod v8s. I know there are a ton of versions of the ls, and the mod had such a large longblock portability thoughout multiple models, car and truck alike (at least in terms of the 4.6).

GM may have been making more power, but at what cost?

A mod motor has considerably more material, casting, milling, and tool hours than an LS motor.
