Sooooo...the further he falls, the thicker the atmosphere, therefore the slower he goes? Does he plan on breaking it within the first 20,000 feet of the fall? He topped out at 5xx.xx mph on his 70,000+ft fall. I know that they have physicists that should have this stuff figured out but I dunno. He's gonna need close to another 200mph to hit that.

Yes he will slow down as he gets closer to earth, not sure on the details but less density..less friction more speed. A persons body position will also affect their speed. Someone falling belly to earth will fall slower than someone falling head to earth.

Terminal velocity for a human in the "bullet" position is just over 200mph, which I'm guessing is at normal skydiving heights. He's gonna have to break that sound barrier during the first part of the jump. He's being accelerated by gravity from what I've seen, and not an outside force.

The denser the atmosphere, the more drag. I forget the equation but once gravity equals drag, you're at terminal velocity, I think. Basically, when he hits a certain altitude, he will begin hitting the brakes. Yale could explain it better.

The higher the altitude the lower the temperature = slower sound travel. Mach 1 at 120k is much less forward movement then Mach 1 at sea level.

So a thread about a live video stream and link of the space jump doesn't belong in the video section?

You might want to send your sarcasm meter to the shop.

There is a thread in the backporch about this jump.

Pretty sure, at some point, the ground will break his fall.

wrong. Current male speed skydive record is 327 miles an hour. I've personally gone over 260. and the speed skydive record was done at an starting altitude of 12k feet.

but yeah, the record would be broke in the first part of the jump. It'll be curious to see how he holds up. Talk about an intense jump. I'd be all over that.. standing on top of the world has to be a fucking cool feeling.

                              Edit:

Somebody needs to tell this guy when he's standing on the edge about to jump, to say " I'm king of the motherfucking world!"
