Yet another reason why I record the milege on my odometer and reset the trip monitor when I drop any of my cars off for any kind of service. It obviously doesn't detect this type of abuse, but it at least lets me know if they drove it 10 miles when it was in for something that didn't require any type of test drive.

Yup, happened at every dealership I worked at ALL the time. Dealerships are scandalous front to back. If it's something minor and inexpensive you should ask them to warranty the part and see if they will let you do the repair yourself. A couple of dealerships have let me do this before.

I worked at an unnamed Ford dealer as a lube tech when the Mach 1's came out. Guy brought one in for service and half the damned shop took turns taking it for a joy ride. They spent the day flogging on it, and right before the owner picked it up, they topped off the gas and ran it through make ready to clean it off.

I also used to run a big valet operation. You don't ever want to valet, trust me on that one.

This is why nobody touches my car but me. This recorder is a great idea though if warranty work is ever needed. I wonder if I could wire in a video camera to turn on when the ignition turns on or just have a long record life.

As someone who worked at a dealer, yes this does happen to fast cars.

Things like this are why I do all my own repairs and if it's something I cannot do I stay and observe. Irritated quite a few when I hang around but fuck em.

I have worked valet part time for 6 years. Not once have I ever fucked off in a customer's car, but can't say others don't. Of course I try to be respectful of other people's shit. Now, on the other note, I have seen some disgusting cars, some so bad I have turned them away. When we had the contract at UT Southwestern, I saw some real horrific shit.

I think he did, it was Middlekauff Ford. I received the honor of replacing the diff clutches after that incident.

Yup, that's right, I remember the dealer now. Did the guy get fired? Hell, I think that happened right after I found the board.

I hate to say it but it would not hold up in court, with the owner and Service Mgr yes. Something about you can't record something or someone and use it without their knowledge of knowing it was there, or some shit like that. <---Had some techs and our service mgr tell me this, go figure. But yes, If it's fast 95% sure its gonna get driven a little hard. Hell when my car came through the shop a salesman and a tech was written up for revving my car up, they were listening to the BOV. No telling what happened on the test drive.

I have a bunch of know it alls up here that told me that. I'm with you, but the dealership would never let this leak out any more than it has. lol. I'm sure the vehicle has new clutch, pressure plate, tires and was detailed before it ever left and was all still warrantied or goodwilled.

I thought in Texas only one party needs to know about the record. That one party would be you.
