My personal opinion would be the LSX swap. You can get a 5.3 for pretty cheap around $800-$1000 and you could even run the motor carbed and with a turbo 350 or turbo 400, and have a nice relatively cheap set up. I paid $1500 for a lq9 6.0/4l80e and the painless harness was $650, motor mounts $100, cam $400, Headers $400, mail tune $250, wrecking yard e-fans $50, total $3,350. And most conventional small block strokers cost around the same after machine work and healthy heads.

      78' chevy rcswb truck-l92 headed-lq4/4l80e, 4:10's
94' ecswb chevy with lq4/4l80e, under the knife!

i had a 81 chevy longbed back in the day that i bought for 500 bucks. it had a built motor with heads and cam and a stalled th350. Bought it not running from a farmer's son who was going into the military, changed out the carb and adjusted the timing and it ran like a charm. Truck looked like shit (dark blue/light blue) but it would light up the tires with ease and sounded nasty as hell through the cutouts. with the cutout closed and through the stock exhaust it sounded stock. Loved that truck. Sold it to a messican in Austin for 4500 bucks and didnt spend a damn dime on it over the 2 years I owned it.

Are you wanting a roller or something that runs and drives?
my 63 has a bent frame horn.. not bad on just sits out a little further than the other.. i really never even noticed til i pulled the bumper off. i was just gonna leave em, what do you think? If I ever Z'ed it i'd be re cutting the front right where it bows out

Up to you. It won't hurt anything except cosmetic where the bumper might not sit right. I've seen quite a few that someone opened up the bumper bracket holes and made a mess doing it to get the bumper to be right. If it's like you say and not bad you can push it back into place with a porta-power if you can find someone who has one. I have seen people heat it with a torch and beat it back but I don't like it done that way because I'm sure it changes the strength of the metal and I would personally want that strength if I was in a front impact accident. Got any pics of your truck? I love the 63 "knee knocker" trucks.

I had a couple of those, an 85 LWB with a 350. I won the high school deal at ennis back in 99. Then I had an 86 with a 454 that my dad bought brand new in 86, of course it was just a 305 then. It had convo pros on it as well!!

I'd love to build the Fall guy truck, or maybe even Patrick Swayze's truck from Red Dawn. I'm into step-side 4x4's. My next build will be a little older though, '56 chevy step-side.
